December All-Media Show

I'm on a streak. I got into the Art League Show again for the fourth time in-a-row. The jurors this month were Linda and Steve Krensky, owners of the Light Street Gallery in Baltimore, MD. The painting is called Sarah and was done in the weekly open-life session.

Small Works All-Media Show

The November Show was juried by Faye Block and the Art League changed the rules for this show to allow more than one painting per person, so I was able to have two in the show. I entered two different small paintings that I did in open-life sessions. One is traditional and the other more narrative.

October All-Media Show

This month the Art League has a dual juried show, one called Altars, Icons and Reliquaries and one that is an All-Media membership show. I just tried for the All-Media Show and got my painting of Sonia accepted. I painted Sonia in my Wednesday open-life session. The All-Media Show was juried by Danielle O'Steen.

September All-Media Show

The September All-Media Show at the Alexandria Art League was juried by Dr. Barbara Wolanin. I didn't enter any pieces for June, July or August since I was away, so I was glad to have my still life called 'Pansies and Pears' accepted into the show.

Rehoboth Beach Paint Out

This year the event started with a reception at the Bellmoor Inn on Thursday night and it was nice to catch up with some of the artists from previous years. On Friday I painted building scenes in town since it would be less crowded than on Saturday, but it rained in the afternoon. On Saturday I painted Lake Gerar in the morning and in the afternoon I was bold enough to paint on the boardwalk. I painted the yucca plants in Dune Park near Grenoble Pl. I had so many people stop to see what I was doing but my favorites were the skate-boarding kids that stopped and thought it was really cool. The Dune Park painting won an Honorable Mention at the Plein Air Exhibit which was held
at the Camp Rehoboth community center in the second block of Baltimore Ave. Overall I thought this year was much better than last year because the art show was in a great location and we had a very busy reception with lots of people.

May All-Media Show

The May All-Media show at the Art League in Alexandria was juried this month by Lillian Fitzgerald, an art consultant and curator. My painting is of hydrangeas from my garden that I painted last summer. I'd like to do more floral and still life paintings because it is a different experience from painting nudes or landscapes. I don't feel the need to rush so I can take more time and pay more attention.

About Face: Stories in Portraits

About Face: Stories in Portraits is a National Juried Exhibition in the Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomons, MD, juried by Carolyn Egeli and Lynn Heidelbaugh. I am fortunate to have two pieces in the show and I'm excited because even though I usually paint from life, these paintings were from photos I took while on vacation in Italy. I love people-watching and I caught some interesting people in the beach resort of Vernazza. The show runs from April 15 through September 18, 2011.

44th Annual 2011 Patron's Show

Featured as the "Most Fun Art Fundraiser" in the Washingtonian Magazine July 2010 issue. The tickets went on sale January 15 and the drawing is February 20th. Somewhere between 500 and 600 pieces of art were donated from Art League members. I donated a painting called White Bay that is a scene from Peter Island.

January All-Media Exhibit

For the January Art League show I was happy to hear that my painting, Nicole Gazing, was accepted. It is another painting that I did during open-life sessions at the Duke street annex of the Torpedo Factory. The juror for the show was Lee Newman, an artist with a MFA from American University and a Fulbright Scholar from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria.
