In addition, I was interviewed for the Art League Blog.

Stormy Weather

The theme of the The Maryland Federation of Arts "Stormy Weather" show was from onset to aftermath and all in between.  It was held in the Annapolis Maritime Museum in Annapolis, MD from 1/15/15 - 3/15/15.  I thought the theme was perfect for one of my abstract paintings called "Whirlwind".

2015 Art League Patron's Show

The Patron's Show is the largest fund raiser for the Alexandria Art League and this year I donated a painting called "The Strand in Old Town".  I painted it plein air in 2010.   It is a part of Alexandria that may be changing in the future with all of the development being done  along the waterfront.

2014 Patron's Show

The 2014 Patron's Show was a huge success again this year with 683 donated pieces of artwork.  This year I donated a piece called "Top of Walnut" which is a painting of some houses in my neighborhood.

Abstract Expressionism Revisited

This year is the Art League's 60th anniversary and they are celebrating by having a series of shows that revisit art movements of the past six decades.  This should be fun because I have been transitioning back to doing abstract paintings.  For the Abstract Expressionism show in January my painting called "The Dressing Ceremony" was accepted.

Flora and Fauna

The April Show at the Alexandria Art League this month is titled Flora and Fauna.  My painting Squash and Pears was accepted and received an Honorable Mention.  In the juror's dialogue, the juror, Yuriko Yamaguchi, said that the works that were selected for an honorable mention conveyed "strong impressions of the strength, fragility and drama of life" which sounds good to me.

Small and Large Works

The November Art League Show was two shows in one.   The Small Works Show was juried by Lindsay Harris and my painting Quail Eggs and Yams was accepted and received an Honorable Mention.  In her juror's dialogue, Lindsay Harris said that many of the accepted pieces were "examples of simple, humble objects rendered precious through art".

September All-Media Show

The September All-Media Membership show at the Art League in Alexandria, VA was juried by Judy Southerland and she selected my painting called Woman in Vernazza for an Honorable Mention.  This painting was inspired by a woman I saw in a resort town in Italy.

'Scapes Show

August is always the big landscape show at the Alexandria Art League and this year it was juried by artist Jonathan Linton.  After painting in the Plein Air Coastal Delaware show I was inspired to do some larger studio landscapes and this one called Clouds over Prime Hook got accepted into the show.

Plein Air Coastal Delaware

I just got back from a week of painting for the Plein Air Coastal Delaware event.   We painted for four days straight in Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany and Milton.  There were painters and photographers competing in separate categories.  The weather was mostly warm and one day it rained almost all day, forcing me to paint one painting from my car (not shown here).  On Friday night they had a Gala at the Children's Beach House that was fun.  I really enjoyed catching up with my artist friends.  The Rehoboth Art League will show most of the paintings in their Homestead building for the month of June.  Here are the paintings that I did for the show in random order.

Bedtime Stories

The theme of the May All-Media show at the Art League was Bedtime Stories.  They were looking for narrative works so I submitted a painting that I did of my daughter hiding under the kitchen table. The juror of the show was Judith Greenberg who is the director of the Kreeger Museum in D.C.

2012 Patron's Show

For the 2012 Annual Patron's Show Fundraiser at the Alexandria Art League Gallery, I donated a painting called Faun at River Farm.  It is a plein air painting that I did a few years ago.  The Patron's Show is the biggest fundraiser for the Art League and everyone loves it.  Everyone who buys a ticket gets to pick a painting when their number is randomly called, but they don't have much time so they have to keep track of their favorite paintings and cross them off the list when they get picked by other people.
